Breastfeeding on Good Morning America
posted on May 16th, 2013

Hi Everyone!

No, I didn't actually breastfeed on television. ;)

This morning I appeared on Good Morning America with anchor Abbie Boudreau to talk about my choice to breastfeed my son Draco until the age of 2 1/2.

It was a fun interview, and I was glad to have the opportunity to share my experience with other mothers who might be considering "extended" breastfeeding!

I know there can be judgment out there, and I encourage moms to do whatever feels right - and if they choose to breastfeed longer than is "typical," I say this to them: You go girl! ;)

Here's the Good Morning America interview.

Hope you're having a great day!

Hi!  Good for you for extended breastfeeding, and thank you for talking about it on national television!!  I breastfed our daughter (now 25) until she was 4 through my pregnancy with our son (now 21), and it worked great.  He was breastfed until he almost turned 3. Both children have grown up so well and are such kind, lovely adults.  I owe La Leche League a debt of gratitude for all the books they had that helped me feel more comfortable with my decision.  I am so happy that you were able to offer your son this great method of comfort and reassurance.   Best wishes to you!  Kathy

Danica,

I could never think other than the upmost, for you.  I respect you as a lady and a mother.  I'm so glad life is working out for you and you help so many.  Stay who you are.  I adore you.  Peace.

I think it's great that more women are normalizing breastfeeding. I also breastfed my son for two and a half years and mainly quit when I did because of pressure from others who claimed it wasn't normal. I saw a news clip of you on ABC and noticed they made some snide comments about attachment parenting and can only hope that when our children grow up and are the kind, gentle, healthy people we've helped them become, that the mindset changes and more women feel confident enough to breastfeed, co-sleep, and not feel they need to hide it.
